Wolverinetta

Kudos to Wolverine. I don't know if you can tell from the shot, but once again, put her all into getting the hair wings Wolverine has. Really, once you have the claws and the hair wings, everything else is optional. (Unlike Nick Damn Fury!)

Told ya!

This had to be the best one, hands down. She could have carried a baby in the opening in back.

Dita Von Teese

This guy was in front of me in the line waiting to meet Dr. Von Teese. Not really related. I just appreciate a super-mohawk of any kind. Especially one from which you could hang coats!

Here is Dita at her signing table.

And here she is with her future ex-husband. I have to tell you, Dita was one of the coolest people at the con. This was due, in large part, due to the fact that she would still talk to you, or sign whatever you brought her even if you did not buy one of her pictures.

I found a picture that I really liked, and purchased it anyway.

Here is a copy of the picture I purchased. You can find it at dita.net among many others.

Strangers In Paradise

This is an upclose, not-so-clear, first-day-with-a-digital-camera shot of a tattoo of two panels from the comic book Strangers In Paradise. I've seen all sorts of tattoos, but never anyone that liked a book so much, that they got the actual panels tattooed on their arm.

Walking comic book.

Here's a look at his entire arm, and the person behind it.

Short Delay

Sorry about no posts over the last week. Friends from out of town, and now, someone's donating a 50" tv to me. I have about a day or two to take everything out of the entertainment center, find places for it, find a place for my old, puny 27" tv (bedroom) and clear a path to the 50" area.

The Official Saturday Post

It took some thought as to whether I should write this or not. Everyone that I know knows that Saturday at ComicCon is an absolute cluster. This year, the number I heard quoted was 120,000 attendees. Despite the fact that the convention is seven city blocks of rows, it is still packed in most areas, and the air conditioning never quite catches up in the dealer's room. (It's a good day to attend the panels being held upstairs.)

Anyone that tries to just "drop by" on Saturday is insane. I wish I had a picture of the line to buy tickets about a mile long. At one point, I heard that someone waited, mostly in the heat and humidity, four hours to get a ticket and get in. And that's with 60 or so people registering them. Seriously, buy them online and come down the day before. It's sort of a hassle, but nothing like that miserable line eating up your entire day.

Just so I do not misquote my friend, here's her e mail to me. My guest blogger; her first time at the Con.

"
As for the crowd etiquette piece - YES PLEASE!!!! Starting with PLEASE WATCH YOUR OWN DAMN KIDS and following up with PLEASE DON'T STEP ON ME/MY KIDS. Believe it or not these are not 2 sides of the same argument. The former is please don't let your 3 year old wander off to act like a gibbon in heat, hiding under tables, kicking strangers in the nether-parts and screaming like a banshee....The latter is believe or not ass-hat there ARE people SHORTER than you who don't wish to be run over simply because you're too damn self absorbed to watch wear you're going. (I think these are the same people who insist on driving lifted trucks and H2's.)
Ok, that's my 2 cents - too much coffee this morning."

Thanks, baby.

If I had to add anything to this, it would be, "Teenagers! We all want to get someone quicker. We can't. There is a small city in aisle 3200 alone. Quit trying to use your shoulder blade to cut in and dart ahead. It's pissy, it's useless, and it only adds to the tension. Also, pros, booth owners, and all of the other clueless... I know you really missed your friends, and I know you're happy to see them, but do not form some ignorant, four-person knitting circle in the middle of any aisle. The lobby is huge, and has better air conditioning. In other words, where this small city is trying to pass, MOVE! GET OUT! (I have some understanding when it comes to children, but these are generally adults blah-blahing.)

Ok, I think that's my Saturday rant. More as I think of it.

An actual Greek-looking Elektra

Ok, ok. With the eyepatch AND the grey streaks, I guess he's Nick Fury enough. If you're not going to do an actual uniform, how about a gun holster over the shoulder?

As far as Elektra goes, the title says it all. For those of you that don't know, Elektra is a greek heiress. Some artists forget that. I wouldn't necessarily hold someone in costume to that, but since we have it, kudos.

Adult And Horror Film Star

This is the star of the horror film, "Slaughter Disk." They roped me in by the first line in their description, "Mike likes porn." They they then go on to say, "Unfortunately, he is blinded by his addiction to XXX pornography as it slowly eats away at every aspect of his life."

I feel like they owe me royalties.

The film was horrible! I could barely get passed the fourth viewing!

Mystique

Don't recognize Mystique? That's because you've only seen the movies. This Mystique is much closer to the actual comic. Seriously, though? Nice eyes. Even better in person.

Girls with guns. You can't go wrong.

DC Comic's Very Good Year

A very nice Poison Ivy. Aside from Star Wars, DC Comics had a very good year. This particular costume was not in the booth like the following, but I thought she would be a good place to start.

One of the two Raven costumes I saw.

Instead of Wonder Woman, this is Ten-And-Under Woman. (All of the kids had their "character pose" ready for the camera.

What did I tell you? SUPERpose!

This is actually the first costume I ran into at the official DC Comics booth. The Spectre.

Suddenly, three more ran in. Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Zatanna.

For any of you that read the book, this is a good pairing. The Huntress and Batman. I also have to give this Huntress credit, she pulled off the belly costume. (One of the stupidest superhero costume changes in a long time. Who'd want to go on patrol in a belly shirt? You want protection, not erection.)

The Flash was the second person I saw at the booth. I was going to get his picture, when he said in character, "HOLDONIKNOWWHEREBOOSTERGOLDIS!" and was gone in about three steps.

Then, what seemed like five seconds later, he comes darting back in, "OKIFOUNDBOOSTERHEREHEIS." All I could think was "This little mother is The Flash in disguise as a fanboy." Blue Beetle had more of a smarmy, Booster Gold (one for the readers) personality, but it was still cool that they acted in character. It is important that the person in costume matches the character they pick physically. Last year, we saw a fat Jack Sparrow from "Pirates from the Carribean." He really did zip around. Next year, maybe I'll go as The Flush.

The best part is when the group started posing in panaramas. This is where a group concept pays off. They posed so well, I wish I could snap pictures with a digital camera faster.

These poor guys... when you hold these positions, you are waiting for about ten cameras to get theirs. There's a muscle on top of your thigh that holds most of the weight for these positions. Every once in a while, they'd have to break. They really gave to the audience.
Told you they were into it. Most of you know who the guy in back is from one of the bad Batman movies. Bane.

Typical Saturday Jackhole

This pissant damn well knew people were trying to get pics of this awesome Transformer costume, but still had to cut through the open space in between us. Is "shaking sense into" illegal? I'm sure this lollipop with a backpack will recognize his big, empty, mellony head, and ask me to take this down.
Oh, wait. WHICH, BIG, EMPTY, MELLONY HEAD? Bwaaa-haaa-haaa....

Form of a...

Whu-whu-whu-whu... *crunch*
"Scrap parts in disguise"

Bratatron 2 -- Children In Disguise

What would you call it? Fuel? Bait? I called it a decent chance at a shot. I think that Slim Jim's gonna transform his robowear into an economy car with an industrial racing stripe.

Transformer: Bratatron

No, no, no. Over HEEyaaa...

Comic Con 2006 Photo Series

In honor of my new (handmedown) digital camera, I decided to photoblog my time at the San Diego Comic Con.

"Let... the nerds shine...
Let... the nerds shine in,
the nerrrdsss shine in... "

I will try and give commentary when I can, but I will try and keep it short, letting the pictures speak for themselves. (I have set a one-chapter limit per picture on my writing. And they said I couldn't change.)

If any of you have some interesting pics, feel free to send them to me and I will post them along with anything you want to say about them (within reason.) Last attendance number I heard was 120,000. Now was that for the entire time, I do not know. I'm betting it was right on my left foot seventy two GADDAM times on Saturday alone. (Maybe I'll use this space to post an ounce of, not only ComicCon etiquette, but crowd etiquette as well. Sure, I have the advantage, with all the voices in my head. I think that just makes me the most qualified to speak.)
